Workcred, an affiliate of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has been awarded a grant with Greater Texas Foundation to improve the effectiveness of industry certification and certificate/degree (iC+C/D) pathways. ANSI and Workcred Honor the Life of Stephen Crawford, Board Member and Friend
Dr. Stephen Crawford – a member of Workcred’s board of directors and a staunch advocate of workforce development – passed away suddenly on May 12, 2022, after suffering a stroke days earlier. He is survived by his wife, Liliane, and daughter, Pascal. Workcred and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) are deeply saddened by Steve’s passing and honor his memory as a kind friend, wise leader, and significant contributor to benefit the workforce and credentialing communities.

On the Road to Economic Recovery, Certifications Open Doors to Meaningful Careers
In the midst of the pandemic, more than half of Americans recently surveyed by the Strada Education Network said they do not believe a good job is within their reach. Another 44 percent said they are not equipped with the right skills and credentials. A recent webinar session, "Strada Public Viewpoint - Confidence in Education's Promise: Perspectives on Access and Barriers to Good Jobs," focused on solutions to these workforce challenges and highlighted Workcred's mission to educate the public about how certifications and certificates align workers with meaningful careers in a challenging job market.

Major Grant Made to Increase the Transparency and Value of Industry Credentials and Degrees
Lumina Foundation has awarded a grant of $2.25 million to the George Washington University and two partner organizations to build and test a first-of-its kind “credential registry.” The registry will allow users to easily compare the quality and value of workforce credentials, such as college degrees and industry certifications, using a web-based system with information provided directly by the institutions issuing the credentials.

At its May 2014 meeting, the Board of Directors of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) voted to approve the creation of Workcred, a new ANSI affiliate organization tasked with increasing awareness of competency-based, industry-recognized workforce credentials and supporting efforts to improve the quality, transparency, portability, and market value of these important tools. Workcred will be a nonprofit corporation and tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) and will maintain separation from and respect the impartiality of ANSI’s accreditation services.
