Connecting Credentials for Manufacturing Workforce Success: Workcred to Join 2018 ACT Workforce Summit

Workcred's executive director, Roy Swift, Ph.D., will join the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills to serve as an expert panelist during a workshop on "Connecting Credentials for Manufacturing Workforce Success," on October 9 in New Orleans. The event is part of the ACT Workforce Summit focused on the theme "Unmask the Potential," which will explore best practices for collaboration between workforce and education professionals from October 8-10, 2018. Sessions will feature opportunities to develop a qualified workforce and cover how these efforts foster business and economic growth.

The October 9 workshop will highlight how credentialing organizations work with their industry members to educate, train, and prepare the future workforce to fill highly skilled jobs in manufacturing and construction. Dr. Swift, who leads efforts at Workcred, an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) affiliate, will provide insights on why quality credentials have credibility across industriesincluding manufacturingand how quality credentials equate to industry success.

In July 2018, Workcred released Examining the Quality, Market Value, and Effectiveness of Manufacturing Credentials in the United States, a comprehensive report funded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) examining how credentials are currently used in hiring and retention practices, and how credentialing can be improved to advance the manufacturing industry.

For the summit, Dr. Swift will join experts in career and technical education, post-secondary education, human resources, representatives of community colleges, industry associations, employers, chambers of commerce, and others.
