Workcred's Roy Swift to Join Council of College and Military Educators Panel Session on Assessing the Quality of Credentials

3/09/2020

Workcred's executive director, Roy Swift, Ph.D., will join the 2020 Council of College and Military Educators (CCME) Symposium in Philadelphia on March 11, 2020, as a panelist for the breakout session on "Assessing the Quality of Credentials." The session will highlight effective ways to expand access to high-quality degree and non-degree credentials across the educational spectrum.

This need has become increasingly urgent, as these credentials are critical to achieve economic opportunity, social mobility, and civic participation for service members transitioning back into civilian communities. To that end, current systems and policies designed to assure both the quality of learning and credentialing beyond high school, and equitable access to the same, have not kept up with changing demands and circumstances within the employment marketplace.

Dr. Swift will join expert panelists Katie Brown, senior federal policy analyst at the National Skills Coalition; Lisa Lutz, president of Solutions for Information Design, LLC; and moderator Lauren Runco, strategy officer for military-based learning at Lumina Foundation. The session will highlight:

  • Challenges and overall lessons learned in quality assurance implementation

  • Examples of quality frameworks and "guideposts" being implemented across education and industry

  • Best practices of effective public/private partnerships

  • Future quality assurance initiatives that will continue to shape military and veteran access to degree and non-degree credentialing programs

Dr. Swift will also provide information on how states evaluate the quality of non-degree credentials, and why transparency is a critical element of credential quality.

The session is part of the CCME event entitled 20/20 Vision: Clearer Pathways March 9-12, 2020. CCME facilitates professional development for those serving in the military education community by providing a forum for the exchange of information on educational programs, strategies, and innovation among its members and associated partners.
