Executives from Workcred, an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) affiliate, will join education experts at the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU)'s joint summer
meeting of the Council on Research (CoR) and Commission on Economic Engagement (CECE) on June 18 to discuss How Financial Literacy and Certifications can Bolster Student Success and Career Opportunities.
The segment will also detail how, with support from Lumina Foundation, APLU, Workcred, and the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) are exploring how institutions can integrate certifications into
four-year degree programs to improve student success and workforce preparedness.
Workcred aims to strengthen workforce quality by improving the credentialing system, through preparing employers, workers, educators, and
governments to use credentials effectively. In 2018, it was awarded a Lumina Foundation grant to collaborate with APLU and UPCEA to facilitate coordination between universities and credentialing bodies to strengthen student
success and career outcomes (see related article).
At the CECE-CoR meeting, Roy Swift, Ph.D., executive director,
and Karen Elzey, associate executive director of Workcred, along with other guest panelists, will discuss how universities can prepare students for a career in financial planning and ensure that all students have a foundation
in financial literacy. APLU and the National Endowment for Financial Education seek to expand the availability of financial literacy learning opportunities for university students. CECE Chair President, Eric Barron, will host
the June meeting at Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania.
Participants will include chief economic and community engagement officers, vice-presidents for research, and other
administrators with responsibility for planning, executing, and communicating impact of research and engagement across public universities.
