It is estimated that there are more than 650,000 credentials offered in the United States, and yet, there is no standard terminology for describing them. As new types of credentials like microcredentials, nanodegrees, and MicroMasters emerge – with no standards to set a common ground for their development – unique challenges and opportunities arise for standards developers and credentialing stakeholders alike.
