Overview
On October 11, Workcred hosted a first-of-its-kind federal training session, Building a 21st Century Federal Workforce through Dynamic Competency-Based Credentialing, in Washington DC. The event provided training and key insights to federal employees involved in managing, leading, or creating credentialing programs, including chief learning officers, training officers, and HR professionals.
Featured speakers included Eric Seleznow, deputy assistant secretary in the U.S. Department of Labor, and Clifton Triplett, senior cyber and information technology advisor at the Office of Personnel Management, who provided federal and industry perspectives on current and forthcoming trends in credentialing. Other highlights of the session included:
- A presentation on the forthcoming Credential Registry and how the government can leverage it as an important resource
- A moderated panel, Success in Creating Credentialing Programs: Best Practices and Lessons Learned, featuring speakers from the U.S. Department of Energy, Defense Security Service, National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and U.S. Postal Inspection Service Forensic Laboratory Services
- Interactive roundtable discussions on key credentialing issues
- Highlights of new federal statistics and data on the prevalence of certifications in the U.S. adult population that will help elucidate who gets certifications, how adults prepare for certifications, and how they perceive the benefits of certification. Sharon Boivin, chair of the Interagency Working Group on Expanded Measures of Enrollment and Attainment (GEMEnA) discussed how these new data can provide a context for ongoing efforts to make sense of the credential landscape in our nation.
The event was hosted by Workcred and its Government Credentialing Network, which provides a forum for representatives of federal agencies and vendors to share valuable information and insights about credentials and related developments in policy, research, and statistics.
